Is that who I think it is? I am very happy for my uncle John. He is in a band called The Long Winters that is starting to become pretty popular. They toured with They Might Be Giants. They went to Europe. I keep reading about them in people's diaries on this site. He is only like 10 years older than me (yeah- my g-pa kept it up for longer than he should have) and he was always very nice to me as a kid. And he is very talented. I really enjoy seeing him play, although I guess they got rid of their keyboard player, or he just left or something, which upsets me because he had a great stage presence. Anyway, they are playing here in a week or so and I'm going to see them, and taking Juniper along because John hasn't met her yet, and because I can't really leave her anyway. Her first concert! Good thing The Long Winters don't play mosh-worthy music. Although my dad is coming, too, and he says we might get to just hang out backstage, which is great as long as we can still hear the music. I don't know what the backstage is like there at the Aladdin. We have a very musical family. My dad has a cousin named Libby who plays folk music. Being a lesbian environmentalist, she seems to be most popular with lesbian environmentalist folk music fans. She also is very talented, and extremely nice and smart and everything. And, do you remember Guns n' Roses? Of course you do, you rascal, you! Well, my aunt married the brother of the bass player, Duff McKagan I only met him once (I got to go to the after-concert party! I got hit on by Sebastian Bach from Skid Row! That's great when you're 14 years old!) but he seemed very nice. He has a condo in Hawaii that I hope to visit sometime. Anyway, the fruit of that union, my cousin Ian McKagan, has a band. I totally forget their name right now. But the long and the short of it is, he is also very talented. And nice. Kudos to all!!! It makes me think: maybe if I put the required supreme amount of effort into it, I could achieve notoriety as well. That is, if I had any talent. But who needs it. Although I would like to play in someone's backup band one day, and maybe get a story or two published. But give me my beautiful daughter and loving husband over fame and fortune any day. But I am very happy for my uncle John. I can't wait to see him! The last time I saw him was when I was still preggo with Juni, and before that... We're not the kind of family that has reunions or anything. We just have discord. |
